I love yarn…and I’m guessing you do, too!! One of the things I like most about yarn is that it comes in so many different sizes or weights. Yarn can vary from a fiber as thin as thread to one as thick as rope. And you can crochet with all of it!
Have you ever wondered what kind of yarn is best for crocheting loveys and amigurumis? With so many yarns available for purchase, what type is best for making special creations for babies and children? Let’s discuss the possibilities!!
I do, I do!! Especially when it’s my Big Hugs yarn!
A few years ago I was looking for some really soft and squishy yarn to create a new line of patterns with, and that’s how Big Hugs yarn came to be.
For my last pattern of 2017, I used this amazing Scheepjes River Washed XL yarn. I loved working with this yarn, and I think it works well for my amigurumi and lovey creations. I always use a 4mm (G) hook for my amigurumis, and the result is fantastic! The smaller hook creates a tighter stitch definition and it makes great shapes. For loveys, I like to use a 5mm (H) hook for the blanket. The stitches are just a little looser, and the effect looks wonderful. You can see the way the River Washed yarn worked up in my Mel the Monster and Friends patterns.
